Making a Gift
We believe that all gifts are ‘planned’ by a donor, whether a gift to the Bridgton Hospital Annual Fund or a gift we ‘plan’ with you to meet your supportive goals. In fact, Bridgton Hospital was founded in 1915 through the thoughtful bequest of Bridgton resident Miss Clara Fogg. We believe she would be thrilled and honored to see how her bequest to establish a hospital was utilized.
How can you help? Here are a few ideas:
A bequest through your will
By simply including in your will the following:
For a specific gift amount, the copy we suggest you include would read:
I give, bequeath, and devise the sum of ___________to Bridgton Hospital, located at 10 Hospital Drive, Bridgton, Maine, for their unrestricted charitable use.*
For a percentage amount, the copy we suggest you include would read:
I give, bequeath, and devise (percentage___%) of my estate to Bridgton Hospital, located at 10 Hospital Drive, Bridgton, Maine, for their unrestricted charitable use.*
For a remainder amount, also called ‘residue’, the copy we suggest you include would read:
After all specific bequests have been paid, I give, bequeath, and devise the remainder of my estate, including real and personal property, to Bridgton Hospital, 10 Hospital Drive, Bridgton, Maine, for their unrestricted charitable use.*
*Please note, Unrestricted Gifts allow the hospital to utilize your gift to most benefit our patient’s needs at the time of the gift. Of course you can restrict your gift to a certain department or use, however, simply by adding the information into any of the statements above (for example: change unrestricted charitable use to ‘for the use of the Critical Care Unit’ or ‘for the use of the Oncology Clinic’. There are many areas in our hospital that you could restrict your gift.) We always encourage you to talk with us about your interests while you are working on your estate plans. Please contact the Development Officer at 207-647-6055.
Life Income Gifts
Another gift you can make from your estate is known as a Life Income Plan. This is an irrevocable gift that bequeaths an annual income to the hospital. As part of the arrangement, Bridgton Hospital would receive the assets that are generating the income after the last of your designated beneficiaries has passed away. This plan allows donors to decide how much income your hospital would receive, plus any additional directives. We have several types of Life Income Gifts plans available, including Charitable Gift Annuity, Charitable Remainder Unitrust, Charitable Remainder Annuity Unitrust, Real Estate Remainder Interest and Gifts of Life Insurance.
Life Income Gifts are very attractive options for estate planning, reducing or eliminating capital gains taxes, recovering income tax savings, providing guaranteed pre-tax income over a designated period of time. In particular, the Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust can be of great value to younger donors, providing a generous income for a period of years (for insurance premiums, education expenses, elder care, or to build a nest egg, for example.)
