Breastfeeding

In our Special Delivery Family Birthing Unit at Bridgton Hospital, we support all mothers in their choice of how to feed their baby. We are proud that 82% of all our mothers initiate breastfeeding while in the hospital, which is much higher than the national average. On staff we have Crystal Drew, RN, a Board Certified Lactation Counselor who can provide support and education for our breastfeeding mothers and Laurie Dougherty, RN, a Certified Lactation Counselor. Breastfeeding classes are held six times a year. These classes are open to any pregnant woman who is considering breastfeeding their baby. Women who attend are strongly encouraged to bring their support person to the class. Topics that are covered in the class include the benefits of breastfeeding along with the basic skills and techniques during the first days of breastfeeding.

To sign up for the class, or to find out more information, please contact the Special Delivery Family Birthing Unit at the Bridgton Hospital or e-mail Crystal Drew.
